Tonight people are puzzling over John McCain's response to the reporter who asked him, after his speech, whether he would meet with the Prime Minister of Spain. His answer made no sense whatsoever, and veered into a discussion of Mexico and Latin America. The reporter persisted in trying to get him back to the topic of Spain, to no avail.
While it would indeed be frightening if McCain did not know where Spain is, it's pretty clear from the transcript that McCain has a hearing problem! In the middle of the sadly comical verbal fumbling was this exchange:
Reporter: (question about Spain)
McCain: (answer about Latin America)
Reporter: "... What about Europe?"
McCain: "What about me what?"
McCain has a hearing problem! All he got from the reporter was the reporter's Spanish accent and a few key words. Think about it: most men in their 7th decades have measurable hearing loss. Many men don't wish to wear a hearing aid, as they fear it makes them look older. And his handlers? Maybe it doesn't matter whether he actually addressed the questions put to him? Perhaps they think it's more important for him to appear younger?
