I live in Boulder - the liberal heart of Colorado?! I have heard a GOP-leaning commenter say "Boulder's the second-worst city in America, after San Francisco!" I am so proud!
There are multiple races and ballot initiatives for which I have seen TV ads (sorry, no radio, except when I drive - which is rare!) Ballot initiatives include Amendment 58 (A Smarter Colorado, with the latest a riff on the MMS scandal). I can't find the No on 58 ads, but the opposition paints Amendment 58 as a $321 million tax increase (Sound familiar?) Also, "no on 47, 49, 54" by a firefighter.
In the state-wide race, Mark Udall is the Democratic Senate candidate, currently Congressman from CO-2, including Boulder. Running against Bob Schaffer. There's been a heavy ad blitz by third-parties, particularly against Mark Udall, but also some against Bob Schaffer Some advertisements seen on TV in Colorado, most this morning (9/19), below the fold, as are some congressional ads.
- Tell Mark Udall to stop expanding eminent domain abuse (Club for Growth).
- Mark Udall: Voted against middle-class tax-cuts, say anything Boulder liberal. "Boulder liberal Mark Udall is part of problem in Washington" "The more he looks at the camera, the more you need to look at his record." (NRSC)
[More such ads here - Boulder Liberal Mark Udall]
- Mark Udall blocked American oil production 19 times - with images of Ahmadinijad, Hugo Chavez, and a sheikh!!(US Chamber of Commerce.)
- Mark Udall helped provide health care for children (America's Agenda: Health care for kids.)
- Schaffer lacks ability to reach across party lines (Udall for CO.)
- Big Oil Bob Schaffer: Are you having fun yet? (DSCC)
- Seen earlier: (Funny) ad on Mark Udall's "Department of Peace" at the expense of OUR TROOPS!
- Seen earlier: a League of Conservation Voters ad against Bob Schaffer.
Congressional races:
Presumably, Jared Polis is a shoo-in - the first openly gay Congressman to be elected as such? I haven't seen any ads, for or against. Of course, he's running to replace Mark Udall in CO-2, which includes Boulder. I see more of the Marilyn Musgrave (CO-4) ads:
- Betsy Markey got rich off non-competitive Halliburton-style government contracts (video). [Musgrave is the Republican incumbent!] (seen on TV, ad via PolitickerCO)
- Seen earlier: the only other political figures (other than Markey) in Musgrave's ads are - Mark Udall and Ken Salazar (D-CO)!
- Betsy Markey will bring change (literally!) to Congress.
- The truth about Marilyn Musgrave's record: voted with George Bush 97% of the time! (can't find it online, just saw it on the tube.)
