Ben Smith has an Obama ad responding to the "Born Alive" attack ads, and tying them directly to McCain. The ad then goes on to attack McCain on choice, "even in the case of rape and incest".
Here is the ad:
No doubt the "fair-and-balanced" media will accuse Obama of running a misleading ad on two counts. One -- that the "Born Alive" ad is from a 527, and not the McCain campaign. Well, true enough. Unfortunately for the McCain campaign, they already played the outrage card by trying to tie Obama to the "Brave New PAC" ad in which the former fellow POW to McCain goes after McCain's temperament. So -- it would be rank hypocrisy to accuse Obama of being misleading. Not that that would stop them.
And, two, it will be pointed out how McCain has always been in favor of "excpeptions" in his anti-abortion stance. That is, until recently.
I think Obama's ad is incredibly effective, and smartly timed. McCain can't hit back, unless of course, he wants to denounce-and-reject the born-alive people, or upset the base by "clarifying" his abortion stance.
And -- although abortion is a controversial topic -- only a small minority of people favor outlawing it in call cases (i.e., in cases of rape).
I don't have much else to add, but I hadn't seen this here, and it struck me as an important development. No more wondering when the gloves will be coming off!
