Let me start off that most Daily Kos readers would probably find my political opinions to be "disagreeable." But most of you would greatly enjoy sitting down for a beer with me. I do not preach family values, I live family values. The family values that are practiced by my family are those espoused by Dr. Laura and many others. Unlike others however, I only cast judgements upon those of similiar values, to the rest my libertarian instinct takes over.
Sarah Palin ran for Governor of Alaska as a family values candidate and her family became part of that campaign. Today, many on the right now support McCain because he picked a family "values" candidate and the McCain/Palin team has now been endorsed by family organizations that I have previously proudly supported.
Dr James Dobson, President of Focus on the Family, a man that I personally have respected, has stated "I would pull that lever" for John McCain - Sarah Palin.
Sarah Palin and her husband made a decision to have five children and with that decision comes a tremendous amount of personal responsabilty. Dr. Laura Schlessinger wrote a wonderful book entitled "Parenthood by Proxy: Don't Have Them If You Won't Raise Them." Maybe now is the time to send Sarah Palin a copy as I doubt she has read it.
There is only one human being in the entire world who can give Sarah Palin's disabled infant the care that he needs while there are many human beings who can give John McCain what he needs to serve as Vice President of the United States. John McCain can not see this and as a result he has lost this "right wing Christian" voter.
Sarah Palin was not there for her now pregnant daughter and needs to learn from her first mistake and be there for her little baby. Whispering in his little ear and telling him she will be there for him in eight years is not the answer. The Vice Presidency of the United States is more than a full time job, it is a job that consumes "thirty hours" of every day.
As Dr Laura often says, Sarah Palin now needs to "Go and do the right thing."
It is also time for groups like "Focus on the Family" to practice in action their core values and focus on the family. Otherwise they will be rightly exposed as hypocrites and the actions of today taken for short term political gain will not be forgotten.
