Yesterday's report from the CBS Evening News brought it all down to perspective. Palin's stock is falling - fast.
Palin is being ripped apart, and rightly so.
The transparency of her nomination was so difficult to stomach that I wondered how the MSM didn't raise their eyebrows at second one. I guess they have to give the three day benefit of the doubt period before going after her.
First it was the constant drip... drip... drip... of blood into the "shark infested waters" (brought about by bloggers) to bring stories to the MSM's laziness of reporting. Mayor of "Northern Exposure." Troopergate. No foreign policy experience (except that Alaska is close to Russia). Flip-flop on the "Bridge to Nowhere."
And now Palin's 17 year-old daughter, Bristol, is 3 to 5 months (depending on what you read).
The timing is awfully strange. The rumors started to fly that Sarah Palin's youngest son, Trig, who suffers from Downs Syndrome, was actually Bristol's. In a bit of strange timing, the news came out that Trig was not Bristol's son. However, it's true that Bristol was pregnant. The news was not released until after the rumors about Trig and Bristol were heating up.
Chum in the waters for the MSM.
Not to sound too conspiratorial, but in the photos I've seen Bristol is holding Trig, covering her belly. How long could they hide it? (Okay - let's let that one go.)
Did McCain actually believe that the hypocrisy of the situation would not flow beyond the Republican Convention? Of course the base is going to stick by Palin. They have no one else to stick to. No other women that actually have the credentials and hyper-fanaticism that can glue the base together to McCain exist.
Obama stated, that families are out of bounds. Most of the time I believe he is correct. Unfortunately I believe that the Senator may be off. Palin's pietism (not to mention the Republican base) is too great.
As I said, CBS said a lot with a little. Yesterday, while most politicians were asking the people to give to the Red Cross, or to keep those in the path of the hurricane in their prayers, the McCain camp was hunkered down all day, and did not see the press.
It's panic mode. Damage control. Figure out the talking points memo. A pregnant, unmarried, 17 year-old, as human and truly familial as it is, may actually bring down a presidential run.
Best of luck to Brisol.
