Everyone knows that current gas prices are punishing working families in Central and Southside Virginia (just like the rest of the country. Here in Virginia's 5th District, our Congressman Virgil H. Goode Jr. has adopted the Drill Here Drill Now rhetoric and shown a remarkable ability to pivot any question to the benefits of drilling.
In a recent debate, Rep. Goode answered every foreign policy with Drill Here, Drill Now. What should U.S. policy be in Iraq? "Drill Here, Drill Now." How should we deal with the Russian/Georgian incident? Russia drills for their own oil, we should too! And so on and so forth.
What Rep. Goode doesn't mention as part of his "Drill Here, Drill Now" message are his own ties to Big Oil. In his wealthy portfolio Goode has more Big Oil holdings than 97% of Congress. Goode's oil shares have increased about 800% since he entered Congress. He has also received more than $110,000 in donations from Big Energy to his campaign.
Goode's opponent, Tom Perriello has rejected all corporate and lobbyist donations. Tom is running a people-powered campaign not beholden to special interests and he knows that Washington isn't solving our energy crises because their personal interests trump the public good. His staff thinks Goode's priorities aren't on lower gas prices either. They recently created this little quiz to find out what the people of Southside and Central Virginia knew about Virgil Goode's relationship with Big Oil.
