I just returned from visiting the constituent services office of my congressman to deliver a hand-written letter expressing my strong opposition to the proposed bailout. I spoke with the constituent services contact as well to let her know that I consider this issue to be the most important issue that has faced our country in many generations.
Every congressional representative has constituent services offices in their district. If you live anywhere near one - or even if you live far away but consider this issue important - I urge you to go visit today. Go to the US House of Representatives website to find your representative's homepage. Their local office is usually listed on the homepage.
Congressional representatives gauge the interest in an issue not only by the volume of correspondence they get, but also by the method by which they receive it. A person who takes the time to visit about an issue counts for much more than someone who calls. A handwritten letter carries much more weight than an email.
I know not everyone has the luxury of being able to get to their congressperson's office in person, but if you can, you should, because our representatives need to know that this issue is important to us.
Please, please - visit TODAY. Urge Congress to oppose this bill as it's currently written, especially given the new twist of bailing out foreign-owned banks as well. Tell your congressperson that you want them to stay in session to work out an acceptable solution that does not give a blank check to Paulson without any accountability or court oversight.
Take an extra hour at lunch and GO! Wake the baby up from her nap and GO! Don't let your congressperson have the excuse that the constituents don't seem to care one way or another. Get out of your rut and EXPRESS YOUR OPPOSITION IN PERSON.
They need to hear from us and they need to SEE us - they need to know that we are angry!
