As I listened to the hearing today on the Wall Street bailout, I had a sinking feeling in my stomach. I thought, "Oh crap...Here we Go Again." When will the Democrats ever learn? When I first heard of the proposed "bailout," my initial "gut" reaction was NO. I know we like to slam President Bush for his gut reactions; however, there is some truth to that old "gut reaction."
I had the same reaction to the war in Iraq. I had the same reaction back in 2000 when I woke up in Tallahassee, Florida and discovered the votes were still being "counted." I knew then, and I know now that this is a "fire in the auditorium" that was started by Lucy, but Charlie Brown is going to get caught..."Just you wait and see."
I loved Charlie Brown when I was a child. I loved PigPen, Snoopy, Lionel, Lucy, Peppermint Patty, and Marci. However, Charlie Brown with his perpetual "do gooder" demeanor always drove me nuts. Case in point, everyone knew that when the kids played football, Lucy was going take away the ball just as Charlie Brown kicked it. It never failed...episode after episode Lucy stayed true to herself and Charlie Brown remained the perennial optimist firmly believing that Lucy would play fair. I never could understand why Charlie Brown didn’t learn his lesson.
Some of my earliest memories are of my parents telling me that "a hard head makes for a soft behind" or "don’t write a check your butt can’t cash." After more than a few instances of making bad choices, I learned the lesson. My parents had a lot of "fond" sayings, but they made sense and I learned, but Charlie Brown did not. I didn’t understand how Charlie Brown could be so gullible as a child, and I don’t understand how Democrats can be so gullible now.
The Democrats are acting like Charlie Brown and the Republicans are Lucy. Instead of playing political football with our future, why don't they just walk away!
In the words of Sarah Palin, "Thanks, but No Thanks to the Bridge to Nowhere."
