Yes, it's hard to find. It's the last 2 graphs of an AP in which Sarah Palin tries to explain her remarks to Katie Couric about Russia. And doesn't.
This article notes that Palin visited the memorial to the World Trade Center victims. The AP then notes Palin's connection to the disaster:
Palin's parents went to New York in January 2002 to help control the rat population in Staten Island's Fresh Kills landfill as part-time contract workers with the Agriculture Department, her mother, Sally Heath, told The Associated Press on Thursday.
Their task for two weeks was to control the rats so that they did not disturb the debris from the World Trade Center that was being brought there and searched by forensic teams for human remains.
Well, I guess somebody had to do it. And I'm sure there was a lot of dirty work that went on in the clean up of the World Trade Center. And God, nobody wanted rats rooting around ruins. So I guess I'm grateful for the service the Palin family provided. Although I'm not quite sure why New York City didn't have its own rat experts. Lord knows they have enough.
Oh. And thanks, mom, for sharing that interesting tidbit. Don't tell Cindy McCain. I don't think she would invite you over for dinner.
Now, does this explain why Sarah Palin is a Republican? Because her family has experience dealing with rats? The way the right-wing House Republicans blew up yesterday's bailout deal, it would certainly suggest ratlike characteristics.
I'm also thankful to the AP reporter who reported that little gem hoping somebody would find it. Well, I found it!
