In tonight's debate, John McCain proposed a spending freeze on the federal government with a few short exceptions, including Veteran's program. As one news story reported, "McCain suggested a spending freeze on all federal government programs but defense, veterans affairs and entitlements such as Social Security pension payments and Medicare insurance for the elderly." One exception to the freeze that Senator McCain did not mention was the U.S. Department of Energy.
As drivers across the country face gasoline shortages, McCain's energy mistake is glaring.
Now Senator Obama has proposed a massive $150 billion program to promote energy independence from middle east oil.
Senator Obama said tonight "I want to make sure that we are investing in energy in order to free ourselves from dependence on foreign oil. Now, that is a big project. That is a multi-year project," "I'm not willing to give up the need to do it, but there may be individual components of it that we can't do."
Obama said that he may have to have small reductions of a $150 billion energy plan, but McCain suggested tonight that he would not spend a single additional dollar for energy.
