First off, let's look at the facts as we THINK we know them. Bristol is supposedly 5 months pregnant. This was a fact when her mother accepted the offer of Veep. At the time of the "vetting", she revealed this to the McCain campaign. So, now they have an unwed mother story from a woman who claims her daughter made the 'choice' to keep the baby, as if her parents would let it go another way (same thing with Sarah's last pregnancy, btw).
More after the fold...
At first, there was no mention of a marriage between the 2 teenagers. Only after the pregnancy story became viral, did the marriage story come out. Why didn't that come out first and then sometime later, mention the pregnancy? I am sure that there had been no real discussion of it until the pregnancy itself seemed to show the obvious lack of planning on the campaign to any reaction there might be. Or they just didn't care. Everyone would praise the Palins for assisting their pregnant daughter in her time of need.
Except, (and here is the irony)..it shows a lack of respect for Marriage itself, based on their own definition. These people claim that Marriage is a sacred institution and that it is intended to honor God and further procreation. How honorable is a marriage when it is forced on 2 kids just to show the world that this unplanned pregnancy is somewhat legitimate? Doesn't their "holier-than-thou" argument about their high morals go out the window when their actions run in opposition to their beliefs? And why don't the very people you are appealing to, the Christian Right, see this hypocrisy for what it is?
Oh yes, I know, because this kind of thing happens all the time among them. It is not ok to have pre-marital relations, but if you do, just make sure you keep the child and marry the father. Then it is all ok with God.
