I think I've noticed something here that bothers me. It occurs to me that we need to be a little more thoughtful in our comments regarding all of the idiocy that surrounds us. I know it is so freaking easy these days to post a comment saying something like the "republicans can't govern", or that "republicans are hypocrites", or that "republicans will raise your taxes".
I think we need to stop this sort of thing. Now. Here's why...
... We're painting with far too broad of a brush here folks. We need to stop identifying republicans as our enemy. I live and work in the South where I'm surrounded by Republicans, many of whom I call my friends. In general they're a pretty decent bunch with great love for this country and great hopes for their children. - They are republicans, but they're just misinformed. They're not idiots, they're not knowingly hypocrites, and they're not wanting to raise our taxes. They're ignorant about many facts (thank you very much you main stream media talking heads) - but they're not stupid. They are also proud. Being proud, they get defensive when they read or hear reports that the grassroots say that republicans are xxxx.
This is NO way to make friends and influence people, people.
That they take offense and become defensive is because they identify themselves as republicans (not Cheney supporters, or McCain supports, or Palin supports.. just plain republicans). They were hoodwinked and bamboozled. They don't realize the amount of misinformation and lies they've been hearing on the radio and TV, and they don't want to admit that they've been had.
So... We need to stop shooting with a shot gun (or nuking the entire population) and start using a laser beam to focus on the real hypocrites, idiots and criminals. Let's try to use names instead of just the catch-all blame-all label "republicans". How about:
McCain wants to raise your taxes
McCain is an idiot
McCain is a hypocrite
etc.
See the difference? Even some of our Southern Republican friends may agree on this. We'll stand a better chance of bringing in crossover voters who really do want change if we stop bashing the entire republican brand and just go after those specific individuals in the republican leadership that have done so much harm to this country and our future.
