This is the really scary thing about Palin: she really believes the religious war crap against Muslims. It's not about her kids, or her snowmobillin', beer chuggin' husband. Though I've been sorely tempted to make fun of that stuff (yes the Beverly Hillbillies have come to mind).
But:
"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending (troops) out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan.
I can't imagine a worse person to be in power than someone who actually believes this malarky. I don't think Bush, Cheney, or McCain does. But I think Palin really may not know any better.
And, if she's elected VP, she'd likely end up as President one way or the other--either through McCain's ill health, or in 2012/2016 as semi-incumbent.
It seems impossible from some one so entirely banal, but-- I really think we are in fact at a monumental crossroads here.
Very similar turn of events as to how Hitler came to power by a combination of electoral division and electoral shenanigans. I can see a similar result in 2008, if we're not careful. A real chance for rule by Christian-Taliban.
Or not.
No one took ol' Hitler seriously, so the various opposing parties wouldn't come together to defeat him. If they had; he would have lost.
And I for one have thought of Palin & family (and their followers) as a big joke.
But then years ago, I never would have predicted how strong the Fundamentalist movement would become.
I'm not laughing now; not after reading the MSM's unthinking take on this fool's speech tonight.
And, I've put aside my own Green Party / Indy tendencies (for now).
The stakes are now to high, and I won't make the same mistake as many lefty Germans did way back in '29 -- I'll back Obama, despite my reservations.
And I'll only be laughing at the Repugs again once they lose in a landslide & go silently home to AZ and AK.
