After listening and watching the superficial and highly scripted Palin speech tonight, which predictably was lauded by the MSM as a "homerun", or "even possibly a grand slam" by the likes of Wolf Blitzer, I am imagining a press release or public statement by Barack Obama in response to it. Below the fold, please read my "dream" press release that I would hope the Obama campaign could approach...
"Last night, we witnessed Governor Sarah Palin give a good accounting of herself and her background in her introduction to the nation at the RNC. Unfortunately, her speech contained about 18 seperate misleading statements and outright lies that our campaign must point out. Now, we don't blame Ms. Palin much for these errors. After all, this speech was written by others for her to read on the teleprompter, unlike Barack Obama's acceptance speech as well as his other speeches which he personally writes himself."
"Among the misleading statements in Ms. Palin's speech were the following:
* Claiming to be against the "Bridge to Nowhere" when she actively campaigned for it as mayor and while running for governor.
* Failing to point out that even after the Bridge to Nowhere was cancelled, she gladly kept the federal funds allocated for it in her state's coffers.
* Denigrating Senator Obama's work as a community organizer, falsely claiming that he wasn't responsible for anything. Clearly, Ms. Palin doesn't understand what organizers do and are responsible for in helping the lives of struggling families in economically hard hit communities like South Chicago where Obama worked successfully in making a difference.
* Falsely stating that Senator Obama's tax plan will "raise our taxes", when in fact his publshed plan will lower taxes for 95% of taxpayers, and the amount of the cut it far greater than proposed by Senator McCain.
* Falsely stating that Senator Obama hasn't given a plan on what he will accomplish. All of Obama's plans are described on barackobama.com, and every dime has been identified to pay for his plans.
* Taking a cheap shot by inference at Senator Obama's wife Michelle's patriotism when stating her own pride in her country. Neither party has a corner on patriotism, and Michelle has strongly expressed love for her country.
We have a dozen other falsehoods or half-truths from Ms. Palin's speech on our web site. Suffice it to say, Governor Palin stuck to the tired old GOP playbook of negative, slash and burn politics that has gotten us nowhere in Washington these past eight years. Far from being reformers, both Governor Palin and Senator McCain represent the Bush/Cheney positions on almost every issue. They haven't worked for America the past eight years, and we can't afford another four years of the same. Both Senator Biden and Senator Obama look forward to debating with Governor Palin and Senator McCain in the coming weeks to spell out the clear choice that America will have this November."
