I am starting to think Obama is just another politician. We have been watching all the antics going on in Washington over the financial rescue bill. Everyone seems to agree that "this is a bad bill", but Obama and our democratic leadership cannot come up with anything better?!?!? Where is the leadership from Obama? I thought he was an intelligent and educated man who surrounded himself with people that were actually qualified. Where is a better idea for a rescue bill? Nobody can come up with a better alternative than what the Bush administration has proposed? Puhleeaase!!!
Obama has talked about change. Here is a chance to make a change for the better. He understands that change starts from the bottom. (That is what initially swayed me to support him.) Well, it seems that a lot of Americans understand that this is a bad bill and they do not want it! They want something different. The support is there. Where is the leadership for change??? It appears to me that Obama has returned to Washington with an empty bag of ideas. I expected more from him.
I saw Obama in person at a town meeting in Iowa last October. I was impressed. He was inspiring, eloquent, and obviously well versed in many areas. He had answers. He understood the economy, the war, the politics of Washington. He had a vision. Over the past 2-3 months I have not heard the same inspiration in his voice or his message. All I hear is repetition. Maybe he is tired from all the campaigning. Maybe he is too inexperienced. I get the impression he had some well thought out ideas that he memorized, but as things have changed, his message hasn't. A good leader adapts and changes with the circumstances that are presented to him. Leadership is all about managing change. I don't see Obama handling the changing landscape very well.
Now, don't get me wrong. McCain/Palin would actually be worse than the Bush administration (and whoever thought they would ever be able to say that!). But I will probably do what I have done the last 30 years and stay home on election day. I'm still waiting for a candidate that is worth voting for. I'm afraid that Obama seems to have lost a great opportunity to provide the leadership that his candidacy once promised. I'm disappointed and disillusioned. I expected more... maybe Scruffy is right. :)
