Sarah Palin is Dumb!
I going to say something most people know to be completely true but are afraid to say: Gov. Sarah Palin is dumb!.
In a recent New York Times article, David Frum, President George W. Bush’s former speech writer said, "... Dan Quayle never in his life has performed as badly as Sarah Palin in the last month." In other words her fellow Bush Republicans are calling her dumber than Dan Quayle. And as we all remember, Dan Quayle was dumber than Jelly Fish. However, in defense of Jelly Fish, they don’t have brains.
Let’s face facts and be honest. Sarah Palin is not qualified to be the Governor of Alaska let alone the President of the United States. With John McCain a 72 year old man with multiple cases of cancer at the top of the ticket, there is a real possibility that Sarah Palin can become the President of the United States. And frankly, she is not intellectually prepared for the job.
Her high school principal remembered Sara Palin as a popular winner. She is driven with a deep desire to win. But the presidency is not a beauty pageant or the homecoming; it is about managing nearly $3 trillion U.S. taxpayer’s money, commanding millions of active and reserve duty soldiers, dealing with men like Putin and Ahmadinejad ; it’s also about pulling out of a disastrous war that’s killed tens of thousands; it’s about developing and executing a strategy for bringing terrorists like Osama Bin Laden to justice; it’s about foreign policy, domestic policy; it’s about crisis like Katrina, Ike, 9/11, and our current financial chaos. Sarah Palin is not prepared to handle any of those things.
She may have been a wonderful mayor of Wassila, but the U.S. is made up of more than 9,000 people. And her biggest concern as president will be more than how to use her office to screw over the guy who screwed over her sister. This woman is beyond unqualified to run the country. Moreover, Republican’s defense for her candidacy is getting more and more absurd. Right wing surrogates use language like "she like us; she’s from a small town," and "She’s real."
When they say that "she’s like us", I don’t think they’re referring to her intellect. They likely are referring to her values. But you can be smart and be anti-woman’s right to choose. You can be smart and be pro unfettered access to guns. You can be smart and be a hunter. You can be smart and be an evangelical Christian. Bottom line is that her values have nothing to do with her intellect. I disagreed with many political and social positions of former President Dwight Eisenhower, former President Gerald Ford, and former Senator Barry Goldwater, but I don’t doubt their intellect. "Conservatism" is not "dumbism," but that is exactly what many defendants of Sarah Palin are implying.
Being from a small town does not also excuse your lack of preparation or intellectual capacity for the presidency. Many of us are from small towns and cities, and to suggest that Sarah Palin represents us and our values is an insult. The only person that Sarah Palin represents is Sarah Palin, and we must judge her fitness for the job as an individual.
In the same New York Times article, Katon Dawson, the Republican chairman of South Carolina, said that he believes Sarah Palin has been the victim of "a pile-on by the media elite." He continues, "You don’t have this kind of negative, media attack without a question mark being put up." Is Mr. Dawson completely divorced from reality? So what should the media ask Ms. Palin? How about softball questions like "how did you feel when you were the runner up in that beauty pageant?" Or "Do you think guns a good thing or a bad thing?" Or "Had you been crowned Ms. Whatever, what would you have done to make this world a better place?" Then again, there may be room from Mr. Dawson to complain with even these softballs, so let’s just stick to asking her what her favorite color is.
We can’t allow people like Mr. Dawson to dictate how to vet Ms. Palin. There is a good chance that she can be the next President of the United States. Remember how dumb President Bush appeared during his 2000 and 2004 campaigns, and Bush is smarter than Dan Quayle.
