I have been holding off on this diary post until I saw that nobody else had picked up on this.
During last week's Presidential Debate, John McCain reiterated a central meme he has used on the Iraq war - one that states that General David Petraeus agrees with Osama bin Laden that the central battlefield in the war on terror is Iraq. This was far from the first time McCain had used that line and I was really hoping that Obama would have seized on it and knocked it out of the park but alas, he did not and neither did the talking heads afterwards. Hence this diary.
What that statement shows is that John McCain has absolutely NO business being the Commander-in-Chief of US forces! He needs to go back and study General George S. Patton who so eloquently stated you never let the enemy dictate the battlefield.
Consider it this way: If you were Osama bin Laden, the most hated and wanted individual in the world, where would you want US forces tied up? In Afghanistan/Pakistan, where you are hiding or would you rather see them stuck in a quagmire in Iraq, thousands of miles away? Just to make it a little more "interesting" for the US troops there, bin Laden even sends a few hundred of his people to create "al Qaeda in Iraq" and see if the idiots running the US government bite on it and claim that "Iraq is the central battlefield in the war on terror!"
Osama bin Laden has given John McCain all the material he needs to make McCain out to be a blithering idiot and McCain took the bait hook, line and sinker. Think about that the next time (and I'm certain it will come up again) McCain or Sarah "Trojan Moose" Palin uses that line.
