Today, the McCain campaign displayed its "Maverick" approach to ignoring copyright laws for political gain by using Van Halen's song "Right Now" yet again despite being asked to stop by the band.
If you saw CNN's coverage of the McCain Palin campaign event in Wisconsin today, you would have heard Van Halen's song "Right Now" being used AGAIN to introduce McCain and Palin despite Van Halen asking the McCain camp to cease and desist from using their songs for their campaign. Keep in mind, this was done after the Wilson sisters of Heart issued a strongly worded statement criticizing McCains' use of "Barracuda" during the GOP convention. Why can't the GOP resist violating the rights of artists for naked political gain?
It should be noted that CNN covered the Heart story but edited the Wilson's sisters statement so that it appeared that they were merely unhappy with not being asked permission for the use of their song and made no reference to their pointed comments of the irony of the GOP using a song that was meant as a scathing attack on the effects of corporate culture on music.
As someone recommended in another diary, musicians should stand up united against the GOP's blatant disregard for their rights as artists. The Republicans have had a long history of this type of thing going back to Reagan trying to co-opt Springsteen's "Born in the USA" as the theme of their campaign.

If someone knows how to contact the band, please inform them of how the McCain campaign has hijacked their song over their public objections!
