I never miss an episode anyway, but I have been especially loving TDS and TCR the last few days in their coverage of the RNC. The vitriol and hypocrisy displayed by the Gross Old Party seems to have stunned even their cynical comedic sensibilities, and they have been hitting McSame & Palindrone hard. (Dude, Colbert is pissssssed.)
Well, it would seem that after seeing McCain's acceptance "speech" (speech in quotes because steaming piles of bullshit strung together with bold-faced lies and base manipulation do not, in fact, a speech make), Jon Stewart and crew apparently had had enough.
Last night they unleashed the most biting faux video bio of McCain that I have ever seen... and Stewart pricelessly introduced it by saying:
"Last night when John McCain accepted his party's nomination for the Presidency, a movie was played of his biography, highlighting his journey to the highest of offices. We'd like to take the liberty tonight of playing that film for you now. The actual film. Just in case you missed it."
Oh, the title? John McCain: Maverick Reformer Reformed Maverick.
Wheeee! Follow me after the jump to delight in the "Oh, snap!"ishness of it all!
The film traces McCain's journey from young rebel to seasoned "maverick." With Ian McShane narrating to perfection (suck it, Duvall!), it underscores the key themes in McCain's life by interspersing copious clips featuring a young Marlon Brando uttering dialogue that paints him as all rebel-y and maverick-y. (Though later, being all freak show-y and pathetic-y. Hmmmm...)
It's almost impossible to overstate how hard they hit "John Bush", and on everything: his naval class rank, his multiple crashes, Keating 5, the "Straight Talk" Express, the multiple houses, the flip-flopping on Falwell, on choice, on the tax cuts that "offended his conscience", on whether the war would be easy (2002) or hard (2006)... it just kept getting worse and worse for old John and better and better for anyone who wants to see this country change for the, well, for the better!
The film is helpfully broken into two short parts. Up first:
Part One, The Wild Years: 1936 - 2006.
Note those dates; you see where this is going, my friends?
A highlight, covering his seldom told POW story:
(You know he was a POW, right?)
"For his heroism, he was awarded a Purple Heart, the Silver Star, a hotter, richer wife, a seat in the Senate, and inoculation against all future political attacks."
This as Cindy's face replaces Carol's in a photo of the two, and the words "out of touch", "carpetbagger", and "reckless" bounce off McCain's force-fielded onscreen image.
Aiiieee, hells yeah, they took it there!
(Oh, and they called W a "fucking hammerdick". Hehhehheh.)
And then, the unkindest jump cut of all... to Brando in "On the Waterfront":
"I coulda been somebody. Instead of a bum, which is what I am."
And all that was BEFORE they even got to the second part:
Part Two, Abandoning Everything He'd Always Stood For: 2006 - present.
Ouch.
Enjoy.
UPDATE #1: Now with poll!
UPDATE #2: Plus, if you enjoy the video, please Digg it up! My hope is, first they laugh, then they cry... then they vote for Obama! :o)
