My fiancee and I were flipping around the Sunday morning political talk shows a bit ago (did anyone catch, btw, how intensely Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday was hitting McCain campaign manager Rick Davis with points about Palin's hypocrisy on earmarks, on her non-availability for press interviews, etc.? I picture Davis finishing that interview, taking off his earpiece, and growling "I thought this was supposed to be Fox News--WTF?!?"). McCain was doing his "good cop" routine in demurring as Bob Shieffer took his side to task for ridiculing community organisers (McCain claims to think it's an honourable profession--yeah, ok pal).
Then McCain went on the offensive, hitting the talking point of "Barack Obama has never taken on his own party, while I've gone against members of my own party on many issues", yadda yadda yadda. My fiancee interjected "Yeah, but your party sucks!" which I just found uproariously funny and potentially a good talking point for our side.
In more refined terms, we might say "Senator Obama has not needed to go against his party very often, because on the important issues facing the American people, Republicans have been wrong time and time again, and Democrats have been right." Then you could list a litany of examples.
Pretty good, right? My fiancee is nowhere near the political junkie that I am, but I think she came up with a real winner here, and I wanted to share.
