I am struck by the danger that a McCain-Palin administration poses in the wake of 8 disastrous years of Bush-Cheney.
POW=WMD: POWs should be people we respect and revere for their service. But POW has become a MWD threat to the people of America as well as to the world. See the rest below the fold.
As McBush uses his experience in a North Vietnamese prison to deflect all criticism, I must ask why what happened to someone 35 years ago makes one qualified for anything. When 40- to 70-year-old people repeat stories of high school accomplishments, I am embarrassed for them. McBush seems to return to those days as the source of his qualifications for President. I am mystified why he doesn't link his experiences in prison to how they have informed specific pieces of legislation and votes on foreign policyin more than 30 years. Those experiences don't qualify him and since he didn't learn anything, apparently, he isn't qualified either.
Instead he flip flops on the issue of torture. After saying that torture doesn't work; that people will say anything to stop the pain. After conveniently naming the Packers and the Steelers to politicize his story of subterfuge in naming other members of the military, he couldn't even remain faithful to this fundamental principle--torture doesn't work and the US doesn't torture. This is POW as WMD.
McBush = DRAFT. Not just draft for boys--a situation vitally important to this mother of a blonde, blue-eyed boy who is 12 but will one day be 18--but also for girls. Barbara Boxer counted 14 uses of the word fight in McBush's acceptance speech. This POW is poised to become a WMD to my child's generation. My child is at risk and so are all of your children.
Failin' Palin calls herself a pitbull with lipstick. What!!! An unreliable breed--sorry loving pitbull owners--that competent women and most mothers would not want to be aligned with in any context. With the blessing of the POW she is a WMD to the idea of qualified women reaching positions of power due to qualifications. We owe our foremothers so much more.
If we trade the cowboy for the flyboy POW, we are still stalking this world with an arrogance we can't support or sustain and don't deserve. The world has suffered at our nation's hands. We are the WMD that many nations fear. I am tired of the US being the bully. I want to be a citizen of a nation of inspiration and hope. That's why I'm voting for Barack Obama and Joe Biden to vote the best chance for peace and a just world.
