Why would anyone expect less? There is an on-going debate on Dkos whether Hamas' religious and political views ought to matter in assessing the two sides of the Israel/Hamas War. Diarists and poster frequently criticize Israeli treatment of its Arab minority population and also examine intra-Jewish religious disputes in Israel. That's an appropriate thing to do, to evaluate the character of the Israeli State.
But when the values of Hamas are discussed, I have been told that's somehow off-base, irrelvant. That Hamas is homophobic, misogynic, and anti-semitic is beyond doubt. So what about Hamas foreign policy views?
Here's a July 17, 2008 article from Palestinian Ma'an New Agency
here
It shows public support of Hamas for Sudanese President Omaw Al-Bashir from the ICCs accusation for the genocide in Darfur.
Also on Thursday, Head of Hamas' Politburo in Damascus Khalid Mash'al, telephoned the Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir and denounced the International Criminal Court's (ICC) accusations against Al-Bashir.
In a report released on Tuesday the ICC accused Al-Bashir of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Darfur.
Mash'al said the accusations are proof of the submission of international organizations to US pressure, while "the US continues to commit crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan and supports the crimes of the Israeli army against the Palestinians."
He confirmed Hamas' solidarity with Sudan, its leadership and people "in confronting this new conspiracy targeting Sudan through its head of state."
I think the character and values of the combatants in the Israel/Hamas War is worthy of evaluation. Do other posters think this matters one way or another?
