Like many of you, I like to read a variety of blogs (including RedState...Shudder). So I browse on over to AMERICAblog where I run into this utterly shocking post. EDIT: I think I made it insufficiently (or not at all) clear that most of my complaint is about what John said in the comments under the blog; there's a quote under the fold. Sorry if I seemed kind of obtuse but please do take a look at the comments.
What blows me away is that this guy is one of us. Hopefully most of you know of him. But while he's normally a strong progressive voice, here he sounds like a conservative shill whining about class warfare. Admittedly he's a bit more nuanced than your average repub but he complains that those making 100K each year are getting left out of government stimulus proposals.
John says, "I'm just really tired of hearing people who are actually quite well off, living in cheap places who didn't bother getting an education, lecturing the rest of us about how well off we are and how we are the ones who have to take it for the team. Or aren't we interested in providing an incentive for people to get an education, to live in cities, to actually do something with their lives?"
His post does have a good point. Lawmakers should not be accepting a raise right now, if only for symbolic reasons, but his kvetching evinces a thorough lack of perspective regarding what it means to be treated unfairly by government ie... the lower class for the last 30 years. So what do you think? And as usual, the comments are where the good stuff is.
