Welcome to bizzaro world.
The most recent scare tactic to stop Obama's stimulus bill is to scare the public because electronic medical records is part of the bill.
Electronic medical records are scary- Huh!!! I guess if you live in fear land and have never worked where there are computers- it is scary.
The fear mongers are quoting off the "Institute for Health Freedom's" web site. http://www.forhealthfreedom.org/...
Economic Stimulus Bill Mandates Electronic Health Records for Every Citizen without Opt-out or Patient Consent Provisions
(Washington, DC)—The Institute for Health Freedom (IHF) (http://www.forhealthfreedom.org/About/) warns that the economic stimulus bill mandates electronic health records for every citizen without providing for opt-out or patient consent provisions.
"Without those protections, Americans’ electronic health records could be shared—without their consent—with over 600,000 covered entities through the forthcoming nationally linked electronic health-records network," says Sue A. Blevins, IHF president.
“President Obama has pledged to advance freedom. Therefore the freedom to choose not to participate in a national electronic health-records system must be upheld,” Blevins says. “Unless people have the right to decide if and when their health information is shared or whether to participate in research studies, they don’t have a true right to privacy.”
OK, I am a physical therapist and my husband is a family physician. We have been using electronic medical records for over 5 years.
Electronic Medical Records are mandated by insurance companies and to be a accredited by a nationally recognized organization it is required. You even get financially penalized by my husband's employer if you don't use the computerized system.
If anyone knows anything about the" Institute for Health Freedom" and if they have an agenda please put it in the comments. If this group is not the one perpetuating the fear tactic, the spreaders of this fear must be grasping at straws and searching the internet for anything it can find. Beware- you will, if you haven't already, receive emails about this from your right wing friends.
No electronic medical records- welcome to the dark ages.
