Fighting two wars in the face of tax cuts put us in this recession. Deregulating the financial and housing industry put us in this recession. This is the truth, no matter what Republicans would like us to think. Those were the priorities of George Bush and his fellow Republicans in Congress.
That fact that we're headed towards a full fledged recession is their fault. Not Barack Obama's. Not Democrats in Congress. Not the American people.
Bush bankrupted virtually everything business he ever touched. The American economy is no different.
Today we learn that almost 600k more jobs were shed in January. That's 3.5 million since December of 2007. That's all, entirely on George Bush's watch.
The fact that Obama is trying to do something about it, doesn't make this problem his. The fact that Republicans in Congress are fighting him every inch of the way, even though he's made a real attempt to bring them on board, means if things get worse (and they will) it's still their fault.
I'm tired of hearing from this sad crew of screw-ups. Obama is right; people voted for change. And we want it now. There's no time to wait.
By positioning themselves as only obstructionists, Republicans will hopefully lose that small chance at "goodwill" with the new president. Hopefully they can be cast aside for years, and a true progessive agenda can be sought in this country.
It's the stimulus now.
It should be Healthcare next.
Let's leave them in the dust and deliver what the American people want. It's about time.
And when it all gets worse before it gets better, don't call it Obama's recession. Because we know better. And so do they.
