Mormon Governor of Utah stands up for the gays. Hold it, is that a flying pig?
God bless handsome Utah Governor John Huntsman. Given his status as a billionaire styrofoam heir (Um, Union Carbide. Really.) I was pre-disposed to hold this particular Triple M (middle-aged mormon male) in utter contempt. But it turns out that Huntsman actually has a certain something about him. I think it's called decency. It's been a long time since that particular trait arose from the fetid trenches of the Utah Republican Party (aka the GOP's Own Danites) so kudos to the grey-locked Daddy of Zion's politics. He's stood up for the gays. Let the hate begin!
Conservative lawmakers and "pro-family" groups gathered Wednesday on Capitol Hill to condemn Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.'s support of gay-rights legislation and civil unions.
"Seventy percent of all Utahns oppose civil unions," said Rep. Carl Wimmer, R-Herriman, a member of the Utah Coalition for Traditional Families. "We are here today to say to the citizens of this state that we hear you, we stand with you, and we will defend your values."
Aux Barricades!
Hum, I wonder of John Huntsman, unlike the usual suspects in the Utah Legislature, has actually studied Utah's history, and is aware of how anti-Mormon hysteria in the nineteenth century led to the shameful witch hunts against polygamy and the unjust imprisonment of the Mormon leadership in the cause of "defending traditional marriage". Maybe he's actually learned a lesson from history...
Naw, that would be too much to ask. But the real question is, where is Chris Buttars on this! I guess Utah's fav gay-fearin' Senator is a little too busy torturing teenage boys to be quoted on this one...
