Some of you may have not been following the Alex Rodriguez story as closely as I have been, but I am a die-hard Mets fan, and love following negative press on the Yankees. Anyway, the one thing that I was concerned about was having another Steroid hearing in Congress that would become like the previous ones conducted by Rep. Waxman. Even Rep. Waxman, "...later regretted having the hearing, which played out like a circus on national television." I was relieved when the Oversight Committee's new Chairman, Rep. Edolphus Towns, announced that there were more important things to focus on right now, and he would continue to monitor the situation.
It seems to me though, that Congressman Cummings doesn't believe the same thing...
First he expressed his disgust (rightly so) when the story first broke, then Ed Towns stated that he wanted to focus on the economy at the moment, then Cummings comes right back with this -
Congressman invites A-Rod to anti-steroids event
I think this is a great idea, but doesn't it seem weird that right after the Committee Chairman says he wants to focus on the economy, Cummings comes right back with this letter? And, he was quoted as saying he wants a hearing as soon as next month? I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt that this is not some PR Stunt, but that he is genuinely concerned. However, Congressman Cummings, can we please stick to the important matters at hand at let Alex Rodriguez be skewered by public opinion? I believe your constituents are much more concerned about their jobs than A-Rod.
