This is a rant so for those who consider themselves subjects of Royal Queen of England or Great Britain now, and are NOT members of the British Press, I have a word of caution; You may not take a liking to what I have to say and you would do well not to read on. If you still wish to read on and find yourself taking offense at what I have to say as personal against you, well then so be it. You were warned and I have already made clear that I am not directing my anger towards you. As a citizen of the greatest nation on earth, I extend to you the very same liberty afforded me in what we call the First Ammendment. Therefore, be angry if you will.
I was only just annoyed last night when I first started hearing all the nit picking about the First Lady of the United States of America. Talks of what she MUST wear and how she will be a failure if she doesn't woo the British Prime Minister the way Jackie O' did so many years ago, flooded my television screen. And since the American press was engaging in the same pettiness, I was going to just leave both media outlets alone. And I do understand that the British Press can be a little overly obsessive about their Royalty In Name Only! That's fine. But , now this morning , I am FURIOUS. The attacks on Michelle Obama , the wife of the most powerful man on the PLANET , have left me down right pissed off.
A lot of nerve the B.P. has complaining over the fact that the President and First Lady gave the Queen an IPOD. Because it was her royal highness, herself , that REQUESTED it of them. The elementary nay saying and feelings of being insulted that was expressed over their dislike of the toys that the children of the Prime Minister received from the First Family were a little over the top. You know, when I was a little girl and my sisters and I would express our displeasure over a gift we received from my older adult sister, you want to know what she would say back to us ?
"How about NOTHING at all ? "
We learned real fast at an early age to be grateful for that which we received. Especially when it was for FRICKEN FREE !
In any event, I doubt that the actual children of the Prime Minister were as ungrateful towards our President as the British Press who have now decided to disrespectfully refer to our First Lady as Lady Mac Beth so I don't fault the boys at all. And what had the B.P. all in a tissy ?
Gordon Brown and his wife came to D.C. bearing fine gifts for the First daughters — Top Shop dresses (with matching necklaces) and a selection of books by British authors worth hundreds of British pounds.
In return, Michelle gave the Brown’s two sons cheap, tacky, plastic replicas of Obama’s controversial Marine One helicopter. The trinkets can be purchased for $15 in the White House gift shop. Sandra Rose
Oh, bloody boo hoo. Some people think a little too highly of their ..(ahem) ..gifts. Did they think We the People approve of the gifts that the Obama daughters received from their Prime Minister? Do they ? I'm sure our press could have faked an outrage over the motives and symbolism behind their P.M.'s gifts of literature and garments. Is the Prime Minister saying that the First Daughters dress bad and are not educated enough? And who buys hundreds of dollars worth of books during a global economic crisis anyway? Ever heard of the Internet ? I'm certain anything they have can be easily downloaded and if not, it might not be worth the read. See ? I know how to be petty too.
And as for the British Press complaining about the so called "tacky replicas of Marine One" , I have to shake my head and say wow. Well, here in America, we are proud of our Military and all things Military. And when we give gifts , it's the thought that counts, not the cost of the gift, that we esteem. But I understand why some in the British Press would not appreciate a symbol of the Military. After all, I would loath anything military related if all the world got to watch and ridicule as I try to explain away the behaviors of this embarrassment to the Crown:
But I digress. What really has my panties in a bunch hasn't even been covered yet. Now, I find out this morning that the B.P. is upset that the First Lady of the United States of America dare placed her hand upon THEIR Queen Are you freaking KIDDING me ? Never mind the fact that no diplomatic protocol was ever breached on Michelles part as it was the queen herself, again , who placed her hand on the back of the First Lady of the WORLD and it was the queen herself who extended her hand to The President and First Lady when they met at her home that she herself invited them to.
But as an American, I am more appalled that it was even mentioned in the first place. That there was even a complaint. And as an African American woman.... don't even get me started on that. I won't even go there. I would just encourage the nay sayers in the British Press who are complaining about the Obamas interaction with their Queen and Prime Minister to revisit their history and kindly take their little complaints and gently shove them up their little bottoms. I would remind the British Press that there is only one nation who has earned the right to ask of it's critics, "Do you know who the **** you're talking to?."
With all due respect , it ain't theirs.
UPDATE:
Okay so the story about the complaints over the toys came from earlier in March. On the 6th to be exact, but it was NEW to me so I don't care. I'm still pissed off about it and not the least bit humbled by my error. Another benefit of being an American I presume. ;p.
