"Suggesting that Texas should secede from the union is a stunning and outrageous statement to make, especially at a time when the nation must come together to overcome the worst economic recession in a generation and to carefully end two wars that have spilled the blood of so many of our brave men and women. Over one-hundred and fifty years ago over 600,000 thousand Americans, from all regions of our nation died to resolve once and for all the issue of secession. For the Governor of Texas, who took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, to forcefully and in all seriousness reinsert the possibility of secession into the current public discourse not only dishonors their sacrifice and undermines the unity that was achieved, but threatens all that this great nation has left to accomplish. It is certainly right, just, and patriotic to criticize the government when one fundamentally disagrees with its actions, but it is an entirely different matter to suggest that it may no longer deserve one's loyalty and allegiance."
These kind of outrageous statements by the Governor of Texas are unacceptable, and must be attacked forcefully.
