A daily blog in defense of liberal ideas, the President and the working people of America.
I live in a medium to small sized town in the mostly flat state of Illinois. Just like most of the rest of America most of the shopping is done at the local Wal-Mart, and as everyone knows they are the largest retail company in the entire world. They are also the same soul-sucking company that runs commercials everyday spewing lies about how they have "everyday low prices", and on some items it is true they are. However they seem to mark up enough of their other products to make sure they are sticking it to the working families in this country just to make more money. I am not going to go into every product that Wal-Mart is gauging consumers on, but I will focus on one, MILK. There is a local small grocery store in my town called quaintly MyStore. It is independently owned and operated and many of there prices are higher than Wal-Mart, but if you shop at MyStore they will take your groceries to your car and help you load them, and for the elderly in town they even offer delivery of your groceries at no additional cost. I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and the price of milk was $2.55 a gallon. A product that most every family in this country is purchasing at least weekly, however at MyStore the price of milk is $1.97, offering a real savings to their customers on a product that everyone needs. My question is why the hell can’t the world’s largest retailer bring milk to market at a lower price than a small local business? We all know the truth Wal-Mart is just ripping people off, and laughing all the way to the bank with the dwindling dollars of our ever decreasing middle-class. It is time we all stand up to Wal-Mart and the other super retailers who are destroying local businesses and say enough is enough lower your prices and stop lying about your "everyday low prices"!
I would like to think President Obama for at least attempting today to get the credit card companies to agree to lower their interest rates and fees. I doubt he will have much luck, but at least he will definitively let them know that he and the American people are fed up with the blind thievery that goes on in the credit card industry. I am sure the Mob would have left the life of crime if they knew they could legally steal from people by issuing credit cards, hell loan sharks don’t charge as much as some of these usury rates that the credit card companies are allowed to get away with. It is definitely time for a "credit card bill of rights" to protect consumers from the legal theft that these companies are getting away with now, and as a vote comes up in Congress on this legislation I urge everyone to get involved and support it.
I find it humorous that Karl Rove works for FOX. It is the perfect place for an evil bastard, and the other day when he compared President Obama to a Latin Dictator for releasing the torture memos, the only thing I could think was he should be legally forced to have a tattoo across his forehead that says "WHATEVER COMES OUT OF MY MOUTH IS A LIE". Trust me he has a big enough forehead to fit the entire quote and it would be the only truthful thing about the smarmy little bastard. In the same vein, I see that the Republicans in Congress are making it known that they do not want any investigation of the Bush Administration on torture. I think they have the right to choose what ever stance on it they want, but until they agree to investigations we ought to just start calling them the GOPT, The Grand Old Party of Torture, because that is what they have become, the party of not wanting to pay their fair share and the party that thinks the end justifies the means. I do really wish there was someone left on the right with some integrity, it would be refreshing to see.
Finally I come to the Philosopher of the Week, which I have been featuring the 4th President of the United States James Madison, who wrote, "Despotism can only exist in darkness, and there are too many lights now in the political firmament to permit it to remain anywhere, as it has heretofore done, almost everywhere". This quote shows why Obama won the last election, I guess those guys who made this country knew what they were doing. Madison also said, "The people are the only legitimate fountain of power, and it is from them that the constitutional charter, under which the several branches of government hold their power, is derived." Something I hope the people of this great nation don’t forget. Well until tomorrow goodbye...
