Why does he want to stop health care reform? Well, It probably has to do with the millions of dollars he has received from the health insurance industry. It's not like he's trying to hide his ties to the health insurance industry. He even brags in his bio about working for insurance companies.
Nelson's problem, he told CQ, is that the public plan would be too attractive and would hurt the private insurance plans. "At the end of the day, the public plan wins the game," Nelson said. Including a public option in a health plan, he said, was a "deal breaker."
Get that, a public option would be too good for the public. Pretty fucking unbelievable coming from a guy whose healthcare is paid for by the public. The nerve is mind blowing.
Odd how the republicans and "moderate" democrats always site competition as the backbone of capitalism, yet the second we suggest a public plan, private companies can't compete and we don't get the choice.
Look I know that people are busy, but if we don't bug the hell out of the democrats in the senate, WE WILL NOT GET HEALTHCARE REFORM! Look at the bankruptcy bill, see how we got screwed over, well this is even more important. This is not just the roof over your fellow Americans' heads, this is life and death.
Obama is great but he needs us to bitch and call and email and talk to our friends in order for good legislation to make it to his desk.
I have seen how our calling and complaining has made votes change. I've seen how it can change the media narrative. If we mount an organized campaign for the public option, it can happen. I am begging you as a girl with a pre-existing condition and no health insurance, please call and email as many Senators as you possibly can and demand healthcare reform.
Start with Ben Nelson, he deserves to hear from you. If you know someone from Nebraska, call them and let them know that Ben Nelson doesn't think that they deserve a choice.

This is going to be a fight, every person at dailykos should vow to contact these Senators in particular, they are the most likely suspects to help to kill healthcare reform.
