As I sit and think on the diary written by CapitolDragoon, I begin to wonder if we can't use Specter's "Moderate, Principled stances" to our advantage. It would be quite an interesting idea. Follow me below the fold for my strategic thinking...
If the reporting is correct and Specter will support EFCA if there is a checkbox on a union card that requests a secret ballot election to form a union, we are essentially able to pass labor reform with a cosmetic change that makes the issue more palatable to moderates in the country, giving them a spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down.
If we can do the same thing and "pull Arlen Specter over to our side" on a lot of these issues by making small concessions that in the end don't affect the outcome of the bill but do allow it to pass with moderate support, we might just be able to get alot of serious reforms that we all want but that "moderates" won't support because it's, of course, evil socialism.
We essentially get to use Arlen Specter as the salesman for compromise in the Senate.
Now if he can get which fellow Jew he supports for Senate in Minnesota down we'd be set to go...
