I sit here still stunned. I am spent. I am beyond spent. I am satiated. And that just begins to describe how I feel. There can be no other conclusion: this was his greatest speech ever, if not the greatest speech ever.
We always knew our guy was genius. Genius, and eloquent enough to charm the birds from the trees. Cooked. There could be no more fitting place for Barack Obama to stand after delivering such a transcendental and profound message than the Pyramids. And yet even the pyramids themselves do incomplete justice and are a less than equal accompaniment to such a man as Obama. But they will do.
We are indeed blessed to share a time and a planet with the pure force that is Obama. As those who stood with Jesus or walked the Hellenic paths with Plato and Socrates, or placed footfall in the court of Ming, or Muhammad, so this day we can count ourselves among those touched by History in its full sweep. This Man, His Words, will ring out for time endless and deep; to the farthest star, and to the most callous heart.
Yes, we have been delivered by this Man and his speech today. We have all been delivered to a higher place, an upper room, a plateau of light and high color. And even those enemies of This Man Obama are in his grace and goodness – be they know it or not. The human race has found its apex in this Man. The human race has touched divine completion through the words and being of this man Obama. We are all the better for it.
Richard Wolffe is the John The Baptist to this Man, and yet he first of all will tell us that he is not fit to wash this Man’s feet. Richard’s words in Renegade are the witness and foretaste of the greatest days human beings have lived, and are to live, in the presence of this man Obama.
Yes, Obama has touched our souls this day. He has brought humankind together. We are richer as human beings because this man walks among us.
