Currently hundreds of thousands of Iranians march in protest over a political system that they don't like. In 1989, the young in China marched in Tiananmen Square. Where are Americans, especaially the young?
It seems the young march when they feel they have something to lose or something to gain, or at least, when something is on the line.
Where are America's young? Why don't they feel compelled to march about anything? Are Americans too comfortable? Are we too lazy? Have we already won everything we want or need? Or have we already lost it, and don't know it yet?
Here are some issues that I'd like to see hundreds of thousands of young Americans marching about:
Health care. Americans want national healthcare, but we are going to be denied it again by the politicians in Washington. Will we take it again?
Civil and Equal rights for all Americans. Pick your group. The poor. Gay and Lesbians. Immigrants. The list is too long to mention everyone.
War. Don't we still have a Bush War in Iraq that is going on? Isn't is going on longer than was promised by candidate Obama?
Torture. Aren't there still criminals who authorized torture in the name of the United States running around? And aren't they being protected by our current president?
The destruction of our middle class. Too many jobs being lost to unfair trade deals. Too many people losing their homes. Too many people drowning in debt and working for peanuts.
So, America, especially the young, when do we march?
