So, Governor, given your full-throated attack on gay marriage as a grave threat to the sanctity of marriage in the United States, does your year-long infidelity change that view?
So, excuse me, with Senator Ensign, and now Governor Sanford revealed as adulterers, how can anyone take Republican opposition to gay marriage seriously anymore. I mean, come one. It's disgusting what hypocrites these assholes are.
Sorry for the brief post, which I know I've criticized before, but I just had to vent.
And so to expand:
I live in Washington State, a state where the state Supreme Court upheld a "Defense of Marriage Act" because the law "furthers the well-being of children by encouraging families where children are reared in homes headed by the children’s
biological parents." Indeed, the very title of the statute, the Defense of Marriage Act, encapsulates the dominant argument repeatedly proposed by those who battle against gay marriage--that it, that its existence will do irreparable harm to the sanctity of marriage as an institution. Again and again, the proponents of this argument climb on to their soap-box and inveigh against the immorality of those that would deign to put gay marriage on the same level as that involving the opposite sex. And in so doing, they invoke their personal morality as exhibit A.
But, oh, how the far the sanctimonious fall. And look at Gov. Sanford and Sen. Ensign, two of the most sanctimonious of them all, two who never even tried to hide their disgust at the prospect of same sex marriage.
I have been in a committed relationship with my partner for over 15 years. And to hear such a relationship repeatedly denigrated as inferior to the marriages of people like Gov. Sanford continues to be painful. But what makes it intolerably painful is to now watch this asshole sputter and apologize, all while ignoring the question he really should be answering: How did you not harm the sanctity of marriage much more than the loving, still intact relationships of thousands upon thousands of gay and lesbians citizens in the United States.
What a hypocrite indeed.
