Republicans - with 2 scandals in the course of 2 weeks and more I'm sure in the shadows, I would like to call a truce. I see a way back for you.
I would like to propose a solution to the republican party. Recognize that your party is a party of people and you can no more hold claim to "family values" than our hedonistic party. Recognize that it is not our gay brethen who threaten your marriages but the hotties in Argentina (and the airport bathroom on the way to Argentina) that do so.
Recognize that sympathy and empathy are useful emotions for people even when they are not used to turn media opinion over the coverage of your scandals.
Regognize that American people are tired of hypocrisy - on all levels and perhaps you can begin to bring youselves back from the brink of irrelevancy - and help others while you are at it.
Become true fiscal conservatives, drop the social conservatism and regain some respect. Now is your time to reclaim relavency and to embrace some of the thoughts of Steve Schmidt and even Dick Cheney (fer chrissakes).
If you want privacy for what you do in your bedroom (Mark, John, Newt, Larry, David, JSMIII, Palin kid, etc) now is the time to start advocating it for everyone. Now is your time to be patriots and stand up for the thousands who have lost military careers because of of what they do in their bedrooms. Now is the time to ask for privacy for THOSE families and preserve THEIR careers. They cry too, you know.
Turn your liability into an asset. Now is the time to become civil rights activists and advocate for gay marriage. At the same time you can help the case for privacy for yourselves as well. Really - Trust me, you have nothing to lose. The evangelicals are frayed, Your "family values" brand is DEAD. As Bob Franken on MSNBC just noted, your Hypocricy brand however, is alive and well. And people have been and are taking note.
I know there have been, and will continue to be dark skies ahead for your party, but hey, I say embrace it. Turn it into a positive for yourselves and the millions of Americans who continue to have their bedroom privacy denied and punished. As the saying goes, "No Rain, No Rainbows."
