CORRECTED: The numbers I saw yesterday showed that Edwards had received $5000 from the Blug Dog PAC. In checking Open Secrets just now, it looks like the figure was $20,000.
Today's article in the Washington Post spells out exactly the reason voters in Florida's 12th Congressional District need to support Doug Tudor instead of Blue Dog Lori Edwards. The Blue Dogs are raking in millions from the health-care industry and its lobbyists. Lori Edwards has not only received the endorsement of the Blue Dog Caucus, she took in $20,000 in donations from the Blue Dog PAC.
According to the article, contributors to the PAC include:
"...drugmakers such as Pfizer and Novartis; insurers such as WellPoint and Northwestern Mutual Life; and industry organizations such as America's Health Insurance Plans. The American Medical Association also has been one of the top contributors to individual Blue Dog members over the past 20 years."
There's more...
As a Democrat, I'm ashamed of the Blue Dogs. They are destroying our chance at health-care reform.
"David Donnelly, national campaigns director for the Public Campaign Action Fund, which favors public financing of political races, said the heavy industry contributions cast doubt on the Blue Dogs' motives."
Lori Edwards should give back the $20,000 she received from the Blue Dog PAC, and she should renounce the endorsement of the Blue Dog Caucus.
Edwards' primary opponent is progressive Doug Tudor. Doug Tudor is a "better Democrat" and will serve the people of FL-12, not the lobbyists. With Doug, there will be a clear distinction between the Democrat and the Republican in the general election.
Please help Doug Tudor here.
