Okay so some want to Stop The South Bashing Now.
Others ask us to Continue the Bashing of the South.
The South seems to be quite the topic of discussion. Most of it seems to be encouraging.
Well I want to remind you that we do have progressives in the South. We have good Democrats in the South. We have a young man named Joshua Segall who is running for Congress in AL-03 that can win. Before going to law school Segall worked with a couple of guys named Wellstone and Feingold
AS our friend Jgkojak said so eloquently said
Let's think about using Daily Kos as a means to support meaningful change throughout the country, and not as a forum to drive wedges and make life even harder for progressives doing the hard work.
Josh Segall nearly beat Mike Rogers in the heart of Red State Alabama last fall. Well Josh is coming back in 2010 and with our help he will be successful. I've known Josh for the past seven years and I can tell you that nobody works harder, nobody cares more and nobody would be a better Congressman.
The Republicans put Mike Rogers on their endangered species list. Josh's campaign Manager Chad Horrell had this to say about Rogers in a recent email
Mike Rogers has failed to show the leadership while our jobs have left the country. And he just went along when his party asked him to oppose the GI Bill, children’s health insurance, and cheaper prescription drugs for seniors. They will spend millions to try to change the subject and distract from the issues that really matter
There's plenty to say about Rogers, but this isn't about Rogers. This is about electing a good solid Democrat who will be right on the issues.
Here's what the Montgomery Advertiser, the largest newspaper covering AL-03, had to say about Segall in 2008 when they endorsed him
We suggest that voters give Segall a chance to put his obvious energy, enthusiasm and sharp intelligence to work in Congress.
And here's what Rogers hometown paper, the Anniston Star, had to say in their endorsement of Segall over Rogers
We want to see Segall make good on his promises to work for the district, encouraging more spending for the 3rd's needs while protecting jobs and spurring economic development. Congress needs the energy and imagination Segall has shown on the campaign trail. He is a bright candidate who can put aside ideology in favor of good government.
Segall promises to bring in more money for the completion of the Eastern Parkway. In contrast, Rogers has put his foot down on more funds for the road, a stance that defies the never-say-never rules of politics.
Here's a clip of Segall that includes discussion on rural health care
Let's do something proactive here and instead of focusing on the negative - work together to help elect someone that will help all of us. I know times are tough and we will have plenty of good candidates, but help us put a Progressive from the South in Congress. Donate through our Progressive Electorate Act Blue Page
Here's our goal for 2009-10 - we know its lofty - but we can reach it and do better
