We are witnessing the absolute take over of our air waves by Rethugs and schizophrenic talk show hosts who spew their twisted logic into our cars and homes every day. Faux News has hi-jacked the phrase 'Fair and Balanced' as if to taunt the rest of us progressive minded citizens with their biased agenda. Freedom of speech is the right of every single American. Yet, when our airwaves are used as a weapon to alter the news in order to confuse the general public, a remedy needs to be imposed by the FCC. The Remedy at this time is the re-institution of the Fairness Doctrine.
When a talk show host and an avid prescription drug abuser is powerful enough to control the agenda of the opposition party in a two party system, the society at large is in a heap of trouble. Our airwaves deserve better. The American citizen deserves to be well informed, not ill informed. These crazy loud mouths have a following, made up of very narrow minded borderline paranoid schizophrenics who are easy to manipulate.
Things have gotten so bad that even elected officials have slowly succumbed to the power of these loud mouths. The danger in our democracy is that sometimes we elect officials who only see their position in office as a way to earn a big pay check. Therefore, they do whatever it takes to keep the job. Despite the fact that this country has major problems that need fixing, these elected officials who manipulated their way into power, aren't interested in doing the job they were elected to do. When Limbaugh speaks, these jesters obey and act obstructive.
looking at the current Republican Party's roster, what any observant person sees are a bunch of spineless jokers without a vision. These people got to where they are because of cronyism and corrupt associations with lobbying firms. However, their destructive behavior is not only damaging in nature, it is extremely dangerous and can lead this country into the folds of the Abyss if they are not stopped. And I mean... NOW!
If every television and radio network were required by law under FCC rules, to ensure that dissenting and opposing views co-existed in their daily programming, there would be absolute truth and fairness in the news cycle.
Until such time as the government re-instates the Fairness Doctrine, the mis-education of the American citizen will ultimately lead to our down fall.
Take for instance a lunatic like Glenn Beck. He is absolutely bi-polar. Yet, he has a following that live on the fringes of lunacy who take everything he says to heart. He claims to be an entertainer and a pundit. These followers do not know the difference. To them, his word is gospel. If he says the President hates all white people, his audience don't find it entertaining. To them it's enlightening.
Here's an excerpt from http://www.politico.com/...
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid launched his harshest attack on the Republican Party in months, claiming the GOP is "being run by a talk show host."
Reid, armed with a patch of Astroturf, slammed Republicans for sponsoring town hall attacks on Democrats and accused the party of waging a barricade on Democratic efforts to pass health care reform legislation.
"I just want to show you what Astroturf really is," Reid said to laughter. "They're taking their cues from talk show hosts, Internet rumor mongers, and insurance rackets."
"I just think, as I've said before, it's not often that you try to blow yourself up, but that's obviously what they're trying to do with all this vexatious stuff they're doing with these meetings, the birthers. It's a party being run by a talk show host," Reid said.
To you Senator Reid, I'd say that your observation is accurate. However, it is no laughing matter when the opposition party in the greatest country on earth has been hi-jacked by a psychotic talk show host. We are in the majority at the moment. Use the bully pulpit wisely and bring back the Fairness Doctrine. We deserve to have a healthy two party system.
