On Sept. 15th, 1989, my mother picked me up at the airport. I had just gone clear around the World, starting six month prior. This was a major event in my life and deserves to be commemorated. Exactly what I plan to do will be explained below the fold....
Wanderlust is a disease. I first picked it up as a kid, when my parents, brothers and I went to the Yucatan back in the 1960s. When I was old enough to go places on my own (okay, escorted teen tours and the like), I started going far afield, Europe, Israel, San Francisco etc.
I took the grand tour of Europe in 1983, and spent a summer in Italy the following year, all genuinely exciting, but the crowning glory of my travels was my 1989 voyage from the Bronx to Queens via Bombay (as it was known then), India. I went to all sorts of exotic places, from Rochester, NY to Tahiti. I'd seen rhinos in India and Africa, snow in New Zealand and chlcle trees in Zanzibar. I'd gotten sick, recovered, froze in the tropics and sweated in temperate zones. There were myriad adventures, but I"m not going to relate them here. This is about a new folly, something that I'm going to do to commemorate the glory days of that glorious voyage.
Jetblue has just announced they're selling a monthly pass for September and October, and when they open for business at 9 EST, I'm going to buy one. I plan to run that sucker ragged, and get well over a grand's worth of flights for the six hundred bucks invested and then blog about it, thereby boring you all to tears. HA!!!!
There is no better way to understand the world than to actually see it, and I've been to a hundred countries and 43 of the 50 states, not to mention four canadian provinces. When I'm finished this time, I should have seen about 48 states and another Canadian province, plus some caribbean islands.
Wish me luck.
