Soapblox -- which is (or was) the engine on which dailykos, and many other political blogsites operates -- now has a project page on Sourceforge, with downloadable code. It seems to have gone live about two weeks ago.
Kossaks will recall that, back in January, there was a bit of a stew, when hackers took down the soapblox hosting site and, with it, hundreds of left-wing blogs.
This is relevant to the leftwing blog community, because the functionalities of soapblox are pretty nice, which is probably why so many leftwing blogs use it. I've been hunting around, to find stand-alone software much like that which drives dailykos, for my own website, and so here (presumably) is that capability.
However, the documentation is extremely thin, and it has no users (as of now). But, this will probably be a new turning point for left-wing blogs, permitting many to host their own soapblox site on their own computer, rather than having them all on the same server, vulnerable to the massive takedown which affected them in January.
