At the town hall meeting in Arizona...where the president was speaking to veterans about a dozen people showed up to protest armed with guns. One guy had an AR-15. Loaded.
Now, excuse me... but I recall when George "all hat and no cattle" Bush used to show up places and people got their asses kicked for sitting down in the street. I recall a pile of cigarette lighters at the Kennedy Center because you weren't allowed to bring them in the theater when he was present. But now guns around the president are okie-dokey?
Makes you wonder what the meat shields in the Secret Service think... actually you don't need to quess...
U.S. Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan acknowledged the incidents in New Hampshire and Arizona, but said he was not aware of any other recent events where protesters attended with open weapons. He said there was no indication that anyone had organized the incidents.
Asked whether the individuals carrying weapons jeopardized the safety of the president, Donovan said, "Of course not."
Wow. That's the official position of the people who are supposed to serve as meat shields. Pretty interesting. They honestly believe these guys just all happened to get the same idea at the same time? What is this, Close Encounters of the Violent Kind?
And what about the assault rifle-toting fella? We can ignore that because he was probably some well-known local activist who wouldn't hurt a flea, right?
"I come from another state where 'open carry' is legal, but no one does it, so the police don't really know about it and they harass people, arrest people falsely," the man, who wasn't identified, said in an interview aired by CNN affiliate KNVX. "I think that people need to get out and do it more so that they get kind of conditioned to it."
Wow. So a guy no one knows claims he is from out of state and just happened to be following the president carrying an assault rifle and the Secret Service is cool with that? He refuses to give his name, and he's carrying an assault rifle and that's ok? I'm surprised he didn't start the interview with "You talking to me?"
Good thing Obama is looking for bipartisanship, because I can see the Birthers and Deathers and Teabaggers are just chomping at the bit to sit down and sing Kumbayah. And Lord knows the GOP is out there telling their base to sit down and shut up, just like the Democrats are doing.
What's next? Will FOX complain if someone gets shot and doesn't follow Harry Whittington's example of apologizing to their assailant and the assailant's family for "all they had to go through" as a result of ruining perfectly good (and really expensive) ammo with their face?
