A friend had an interesting story for me this morning. He said that last night, he got a robocall from an arrogant and entitled Barack Obama, telling him that as a senior citizen, he shouldn't believe the lies being told in the health care debate.
I was generally inclined to bush it off as a typical robocall sent out for campaign type purposes. After all, he is a senior citizen, and a crotchety one at that, so his impression of arrogant and entitled might be a bit of an exaggeration. There was something else though, something that made me think the call came from people trying to torpedo the health care...
Most robocalls come from an unknown number, or even from "unknown". This call, on the other hand, came from one of his contacts that he had called only moments before. It creates an incredibly confusing situation for an elderly person. Just imagine for a second how this works:
- You call a friend from your phone and have a several minute conversation with them.
- 10 minutes after hanging up, you receive a call from that same friend, only when you pick up, your friend isn't on the line at all, it's Barack Obama.
This really seems like something that's way too stupid for the Obama folks to do. Hijacking a friend's call signature just to increase the answer rate? This seems shady to me, does anyone else have a clue as to what's going on?
