You coulda knocked me down with a feather. I was sitting here this morning, enjoying my cuppa coffee, when Republican from Tennessee Bob Corker popped up on my TV - reared his incompetent Republican head over my livingroom so to speak - and you really won't believe what he said.
Seems Bob Corker spent his summer vaca in Afghanistan talking with our military. Now, I'm frankly surprised he could find any since his good buds at Blackwater/Xe outnumber our troops there right now. And it must have really upset him that the only military personnel he found to speak with after all these years and two Republican "wars on terror," sound like Democrats wanting diplomacy.
John Roberts was interviewing Corker on the state of affairs in Afghanistan since their recent election. Corker says he expects the military to ask for more troops soon, which I guess would be expected.
But then, Corker went on to say some pretty astonishing things, given the way republicans have waged war in Afghanistan and Iraq the past eight years. His assessment is that we're NATION BUILDING in Afghanistan! We need to get back to finding alQueda in Pakistan, he said. There was no followup questioning. Does Corker think we need to send everyone from Afghanistan to Pakistan? Does he think we need to escalate these republican wars into a third country? No further details.
Corker has finally come to the conclusion that we need BENCHMARKS, which does sound a lot like timelines to me. He said that someone needs to talk with the troops and the American people and explain what the plan is in Afghanistan. NOW Republicans think there should be a plan?
He's also decided that we need some diplomacy. We need diplomacy and partners. Seems now even Republican Bob Corker is done with the "go it alone" "protect America" "get them over there so they don't come here" rhetoric and wants to step into the real world.
My questions, that John Roberts didn't bother to ask, are this:
Now that Corker has come to the place Democratic voters have been for eight years, can he tell us all just exactly how many lives and how much money it cost before Republicans came to these conclusions? Just how much more in blood and treasure does he think it will cost us before this Republican mess is cleaned up? And, since Republicans seem to be such slow learners, why do they think they should be given serious responsibilities ever again?
