How can we survive this ongoing struggle to get healthcare reform done if we continue to exclaim "The Sky is Falling!" every time Lieberman, Reid, Bachus, Dodd or [Insert Name of Wayward Blue Dog Here] opens their mouth wide enough to insert a penny loafer?
We have to stop chasing the 24 hour news cycle. We have to stop living and dying with every new comment, every new piece of idiocy coming out of the mouth of the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and their tea baggin' friends.
If we continue to react like Chicken Little to every flash of light, any sudden movement and every twist and turn, hour by hour, I'm affraid we're going to lose the war by fighting every little battle. Let's choose our battles. Let's organize around solutions. Let's not get distracted by idiots and tea baggers; because we've done so at our own peril.
The Tea Baggers have won a few rounds because some of us have been letting them dictate the terms of the debate. Some of us are debating "death panels," "government takeovers," and "healthcare for illegal aliens" when those things aren't in any of the bills. Don't let them get you off message. It's time to take back the high ground and stop listening to people who sound just, well, "high."
I'm going to call my senator on every weekday that ends with a "y" no matter what Harry Reid says on Monday, or whether or not he contradicts himself on Tuesday. I'm going to call my Congresswoman every day until a good healthcare reform bill reaches Obama's desk, no matter how many lies Sarah Palin posts on Facebook. Join me by refusing to allow idiots and dolts to set the agenda.
This is our time. We must take back the high ground. R.I.P. Chicken Little. It's time for you to go now.
