Well folks, the Virginia Governors race received a big jolt this morning, thanks to the Washington Post. The Post, in today's edition, published Bob McDonnell's thesis for his degree from Regent University when he was 34 years old, reveals a man who supports government intervention into the private lives of Virginians.
Elaine at Blue Commonwealth really captures the essence of Republican nominee for Governor Bob McDonnells' twisted, outdated and over the top 1930's view of Virginia:
Bob McDonnell's thesis for his degree from Regent University when he was 34 years old - posted on the Internet by the Washington Post -reveals a man whose views on family support government intervention into the most private individual relationships.
For example, He criticizes the Supreme Court decision (Griswold) that struck down a Connecticut law prohibiting married couples from obtaining contraceptives.
The Court postulated a new view of marriage," McDonnell complains, "by asserting that the 'preservation of marital privacy' precludes state interference with the right to use contraceptives, even though the state has long been empowered to regulate the legal and sexual relationships of marriage.
That is a stunningly broad belief in the power of the state to control individual actions regarding sexuality and marital habits. And it just gets worse as one reads on.
And it just keeps getting better:
He does not pull his punches, however, when he says, "Every level of government should statutorially and procedurally prefer married couples over cohabitators, homosexuals, and fornicators...Fight any attempts to redefine family by allowing rights for homosexuals or single-parent unwed mothers."
Or here, "When man's basic inclination is towards evil [such as] homosexuality, the government must restrain, punish and deter." That doesn't sound like "moral persuasion," Bob...
So, this is a call to arms for all of Virginia's Democrats, cohabitators, homosexuals and fornicators. Bob McDonnell is coming after to if he is elected so get motivated - contribute, volunteer and do whatever it takes to make sure this guy spends the next four years in the dog house, as opposed to the Governors mansion.
