So, on Saturday, FreedomWorks, the organizer of the "Tea Party" protest in Washington, opined that over a million people were being reported by ABC as attending:
And, on Sunday, we were offered photographic proof of the size of patriotic crowd (without FreedomWorks clarifying that the picture might be from the 1990's).
What's happened today? Take a look over the fold...
Today's FreedomWorks website offers an article entitled: How Many People Came to 9/12 Taxpayer March on Washington?. No mention of "1 million"; instead, a hypothetical "If we had 750,000" or "If we had 300,000", and then a suggestion it must have been over 100,000 because "We thought the sound system we got to reach 100,000 would have been enough. Most of the people in attendance couldn’t hear the speakers". Even this estimate seems to be too big to justify, since the photo on the FreedomWorks website contains the tag "Tens of thousands of people converged on Capitol Hill on Saturday to protest against government spending". In any event, the actual size isn't important, because the turnout was more than "the President's Turnout" (for a Health Care rally in MN that was arranged in about a week).
Fortunately, we won't have to wait long. FreedomWorks promises "We’re hoping to get a reliable count out tomorrow". I'm certainly waiting with baited breath...
