You can't make this shit up:
Mary Matalin - being her usual sleazy, intellectually dim Republican hack but as always doing even that poorly - actually argued today that Obama, who happens to have dark skin, somehow had a less authentic black experience than Bill Clinton. No, really, she said that:
Mary Matalin: "Bill Clinton arguably had a more authentic black American experience than Barack Obama"
You really have to wonder how she came to this conclusion. Let's see:
Bill Clinton:
- Has white skin
- Grew up poor
- Lived in the South
- Had a dysfunctional family life
Barack Obama:
- Has dark skin
- Grew up poor
- Has dark skin
- Has afro-textured hair
- Has dark skin
- His name is Barack (Hussein) Obama
- Has dark skin
- His father was African
- Did I mention he had dark skin?
You see, an "authentic black experience" kinda requires a person to have dark skin. You can be poor, have a dysfunctional family, and be from the South but, if your skin is white, you still had a far different experience from an African-American child who grew up in America forty years ago. Hell, even today, you can be an indigent white dude and you would more likely have an easier time hailing a taxi in NYC than a black dude wearing an Armani suit and leaving his job at a law firm.
Matalin would argue that Hawaii and Indonesia are not like the rest of America. Again, how the hell does she know? She has never spent one day with dark skin. This is the problem with present day Republicans: they totally lack empathy. They either willfully refuse to put themselves in others' shoes or are simply incapable of doing so. As a consequence, they speak out of their asses.
You can bet Matalin's "observation" will soon become the latest Republican talking point to deflect attention from those in their ranks who spout racist crap. It's patently absurd, but somehow they believe it's easier to spew such drivel rather than denounce those unhinged compatriots who wave pictures of the President as a witch doctor or question whether he's an American citizen.
