This is my first diary here, so bear with me.
So last night we all saw the demonstration for Glenn Beck receiving the Key to his hometown, Mt. Vernon, despite the City Council distancing itself from any affiliation to Mr. Beck, and hundreds of protestors outside the venue. I think the details have already been discussed here, but the way that the conservatives handled it was shady in the way that brings back memories to the W. days. So what can we do in response to this, since Glenn Beck by no means respresents the values of the great state of Washington or even the city of Mt. Vernon?
The Mayor of the city of Bellingham (about 20 miles north of Mt. Vernon and 50 miles south of the US-Canadian border) Dan Pike had the answer...
Mount Vernon might be planning to give Glenn Beck the key to the city, but Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike thinks the city to the north can do better.
Jon Stewart, host of Comedy Central's satirical news program "The Daily Show," is being offered the same honor here, and Pike says he thinks it's appropriate.
You can read the whole thing here.
So the movement has already started. (I am not the person who wrote the blog or even know her, I am just trying to help support the cause that she has started). So if you hate Glenn Beck and love Jon Stewart, and want the great city of Bellingham to honor a media person who actually reflects the values of the region and the state, then sign the petition, become a fan on facebook, and do anything you can to make the honor given by Jon Stewart make Beck's ceremony look like the joke it is!
Bellingham is an awesome college town, in which I love to visit from time to time to visit friends, and I would do everything I can to see Jon Stewart honored by this great city.
