Evening all. Y'know, I was feeling a little pessemistic earlier about the prospects of gay marriage. I just feel like we really overreached this time...that we should've started with ENDA---the Employment Non-Discrimination Act---which has gotten completely overshadowed by the marriage issue. Anyway, I responded earlier to someone else's post with this:
It matters not that civil unions are working nicely in Vermont. It matters not that gays and lesbians are in every nook and cranny of society. It matters not that countless gay couples are rearing happy, healthy children. It matters not that gays are protected in the majority of Fortune 200 companies. It matters not that homosexuality was taken off the list of mental disorders 31 years ago. It matters not that being gay is not a choice.
It just doesn't matter, as evidenced by the 38 states and one large Federal government with DOMA laws and---coming soon to a theatre near you---constitutional amendments.
We'd better get used to settling for an "tolerated but mostly unequal" existence. We can win some battles, but the war? No. For the simple reason that straight people---nay, straight MEN---will never be able to purge their overactive imaginations of those icky images of two men butt-humping.
But whatever happens...keep those chick-on-chick pornos in stock. Welcome to the United States of America.
Am I wrong?? Anyway...enjoy the evening's recap of Cheers and Jeers here, and make sure you vote in the Star Wars poll!
